Scholarship interests
My scholarship interests lie at the intersection of data science and education. I have spent a large part of my career developing data science curricula and resources in higher education for both graduate and undergraduate students. Below is a list of the data science curricula I have contributed to developing:
- Undergraduate B.Sc. major specialization in data science (launched 2024) [website]
- Undergraduate B.Sc. minor specialization in data science (launched 2021) [website]
- Extended Learning Certificate in Data Science (launched 2021) [website]
- Master of Data Science program (launched 2016) [website]
In addition to curriculum development, I have also authored several open educational resource textbooks, published articles on data science education, collaborated on research projects requiring data science expertise, and presented at conferences on data science education topics, as well as given workshops on data science technical skills and teaching practices. Please see the Publications and Talks & Workshops pages for details.
My current scholarship work focuses on understanding how large language models (LLMs) can (and cannot be) be effectively integrated into data science education. I am also working on a childrens book series which teaches statistical thinking and ecology through embedding concepts in an engaging fictional adventure story format.
